Delphine Bedel is an artist, curator and editor based in Amsterdam. Founding director of Monospace Press, a publishing house and international platform for contemporary art, theory and graphic design. Co-founding director of the Amsterdam Art/Book Fair. Visiting professor at the M.F.A. WORK.MASTER at the Geneva University of Art and Design, and founding editor of the artist books series Hard Copy (2009-2012).
Her artistic and research-based practice involves documentary photography, writing, curating, publishing and lectures. Her work is shown internationally, among others at Centre Pompidou, Paris, Secession Vienna, Goudamuseum, and De Lakenhal Museum, Leiden.
Her editorial work with artist and designers (over sixty books) explores the relation between emerging art pratices and graphic design. Bedel was tutor at the Rietveld Academie, associated professor at the MFA DAI/Artez, and Head of the artist books collection produced in partnership with Werkplaats Typografie (2009-2011). She recently published ‘All that is solid melts into air - Notes on Tourism’ and a new photographic essay is forthcoming.
Bedel curated over forty international exhibitions, events and screenings, among others ‘Beyond Paradise’, at Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, ‘Shared History/Decolonising the Image’ at W139 and Arti & Amicitiae, Amsterdam, ‘The Experience of Atopia’ at Breda Photo 2008. She was co-director of Etablissement d’en face in Brussels (1994-97). She is regularly lecturing on her curatorial and artistic projects and research in various institutions and museum.
